ETHS JAZZ BANDS & COMBOS

• Built the ETHS jazz program from one big band in 1990 to three big bands and nine combos in 2013.

• Hosted IMEA District Seven Jazz Festival numerous times.

• Led students in performance at many premier locations, including The Chicago Jazz Festival (twice), The Jazz Showcase, Fitzgeralds Club, Joe’s Bebop Café, and the Skokie Theater.

• Prepared and led jazz students for international performances in Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Including prestigious performances at the Montreux and Umbria Jazz Festivals, and for our ETHS sister schools in Heilbrunn, Germany, and Urasa, Japan.

• Enhanced ETHS Jazz students experience by bringing dozens of professional artists and alumni to perform with them in clinics and concerts.

• Gave students recording studio experiences and produced award winning CD recordings, including two Downbeat Music Awards.

• Established the District 65/202 Jazz Festival to enhance cross-district interaction and introduce middle school students to the ETHS music program.

• Established a Summer Music Jazz Camp for Middle School music students.

 

ETHS CONCERT BANDS

• Prepared and led band students in prestigious performances on the stages of Pick-Staiger Concert Hall on the campus of Northwestern University, Follinger Great Hall in Champaign, IL, and twice at Symphony Center – home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The bands have performed across the U.S. and Canada, including Toronto, New York City, Washington, D.C., Nashville, and Orlando, Florida.

• Established a Music Mentorship Program for older students to work with younger players in the program.

• Hosted IMEA District Seven Band/Choir/Orchestra Festival numerous times.

• Established the District 65/202 Band Day to enhance cross-district interaction and introduce middle school students to the ETHS music program.

• Established a Summer Music Band Camp for Middle School music students.

 

ETHS MARCHING BAND

• Converted the Wildkit Marching Band to all voluntary organization, to enhance the quality of experience for the students.

• Introduced ETHS band students to the world of competitive marching band.

• Led marching band students in performance for the nationally televised 2010 McDonalds Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as five performances at Walt Disneyworld, and dozens of performances at the Annual Evanston 4th of July Parades.
